Therabond 3D

Therabond 3D was originally invented by Choice Therapeutics LLC and was manufactured at Carolina Silver which is now owned by Noble Biomaterials inc. Alliqua Biomedical Inc acquired Choice Therapeutics in 2014 and together with it they acquired Therabond 3D products portfolio and customers.

3D Strut Technology

With its unique 3D Spacer Technology (see struts in the picture), TheraBond 3D® is truly a “New Dimension” in advanced wound care. TheraBond 3D® utilizes silver ions to provide sustained antimicrobial activity for 7 days against a wide range of the most frequently seen pathogens. It is softer and more conformable than any competitor, affording maximum patient comfort and ease of application. Unlike any other antimicrobial dressing, it transfers (rather than absorbing) fluid and exudate (cellular debris) away from the wound by capillary action to an inexpensive outer dressing.

Why is this ability to transfer fluid and exudate an important clinical and economic distinction? A fundamental principle of wound healing is that wounds heal better when moist but not wet. When the skin surrounding the wound retains too much moisture, it softens, and turns white: this is called maceration. The clinical result of maceration is that healing is delayed or stopped; the risk of infection increases; patient misery is increased; and costs go up.

With its ability to transfer fluid and exudate away from the wound, TheraBond 3D® creates an ideal moist, but not wet, healing environment. This promotes healing, minimizes patient misery, and minimizes costs.

In contrast, previous generation products can become saturated, leading to maceration and delayed healing. Saturated dressings must be removed. More dressings are used more frequently over a longer period of time. This drives up costs, increases patient discomfort, and uses more valuable clinician time.

Therabond 3D® Wraps

TheraBond 3D® Wraps are contact dressings configured in a bandage wrap design. They can be used on wounds where the exudate flow ranges from light to heavy. TheraBond 3D® Wraps provide antimicrobial protection for up to 14 days. They are intended to be used as contact dressing when a circumferential bandage is required for the extremities. The wrap dressings provide gentle compression. Further, they can be stapled to themselves, often avoiding the necessity for stapling to the skin.

TheraBond 3D® Contact Dressings are used as the contact layer for wounds with moderate to heavy exudate. They provide antimicrobial protection for up to 14 days**. TheraBond 3D®Contact Dressings are available in many shapes and sizes to accommodate a wide variety of clinical needs. The material can be easily customized to fit a wide variety of anatomic applications. TheraBond 3D Dressings are used with an absorbent secondary dressing of the clinician’s choice.
